__Jim Van Eizenga, conductor

Jim Van Eizenga currently serves as the Conductor and Music Director for the Gaylord Community Orchestra and the Alpena Symphony Orchestra. He also is the Director of Orchestras at Novi High School in Novi, MI and the Concert Orchestra Director for Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony. He regularly conducts the pit orchestra for Novi High School and for Gaylord Community Productions. His conducting teachers include Dr. Robert Spradling and Prof. Bruce Uchimura. He has participated in conducting symposiums with conductors such as John Varineau, Kevin Noe, Soo Han, and Kevin Miller.
Jim’s viola teachers include Kristen Shoup, Olga Ziabrikova, and Igor Fedotov. As a violist, he has performed with the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra, Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, Marquette Symphony Orchestra, Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, Dexter Community Orchestra, Alpena Symphony Orchestra, and Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra.
Jim’s orchestras regularly receive excellent and superior ratings at District festivals and have performed in New York and Washington, DC.
Jim holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University (2011) and a Master's degree in Music Education from Michigan State University (2018). He is a member of ASTA and the MSBOA. He currently serves on the Board for the Michigan chapter of ASTA as MMC Coordinator and on the Music Selection Committee for the MSBOA.
